Colleen is a 36 mother of two. In 2014, while seven months pregnant with her second child, Colleen received the horrific news that she had Stage III Aggressive Breast Cancer. She was a newlywed with a young child. She was blind sighted and shocked by the diagnosis. She immediately started Chemotherapy but took a break to deliver her healthy baby. Her treatment and surgeries resumed after her baby was born. Colleen’s husband uses FMLA to assist her and the kids, but they have no income when he misses work. They are struggling with their daily expenses.

Malinda is 59 years old. Several years ago her aggressive battle with Leukemia went into remission and she began to start her life over again. She was only able to work part time but this gave her the opportunity to come close to making ends meet. In June 2015, Malinda was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Initially, the news did not burden her until she started missing work. Instead of focusing on her health and therapy, Malinda was worried about how she was going to make ends meet. “It seemed like deja vu all over again”. Overall, Malinda is thankful for the spiritual and emotional support she has received!

Susan is 55 years old. Once upon a time, Susan had good health and a wonderful job. In April 2014, she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. She worked a few days a week at first but then went out on FMLA. In January 2015, she received notice from her employer she would be let go at the end of the month. Fortunately she was able to keep her medical insurance until August 2015. Susan’s family was helping her financially. “Luckily I have church to keep me sane and calm”. Susan hopes for a happy ending and is thankful for all the life lessons and wonderful people she has meet on this journey.

Annette is 57 years old. Her husband is diagnosed with MDS and has been undergoing treatment for years; therefore he is not able to work. In February 2015, Annette was diagnosed with Grade 3 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. She tried to continue to work at first but her job was too physically demanding. In Sept. 2015, Annette had a mastectomy and is still unable to work. They continue to struggle financially.

Heather is a 40-year-old mother of three. Life was rolling along just fine until Heather’s message therapist noticed an unusual lump and suggested she get it checked. In July 2015, Heather had her first mammogram and then received the “terrible call” where she learned she had breast cancer. She has been diagnosed with Grade 2-3 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. Heather considered herself “a pretty tough girl” after a horrible divorce that resulted in financial issues. She pulled through that and made a good life for herself and her boys. Heather was not prepared for that phone call and her world was turned upside down. Heather has a demanding sales position but had to go out on FMLA. After her treatments and surgeries, Heather will return back to work in March 2016. “I am everything to my kids. I will do my best to be strong and have faith and be around for a very long time for my sons”!
